<br />I~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 11. 1966 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, October <br /> <br />11, 1966, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, the <br /> <br /> <br />following members being present: Dr. F. T. Renick, Mayor; E. E. Stone, <br /> <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor; Har~ L. Boaz; and Francis T. West. Councilman W. Donald Hartford <br /> <br /> <br />was absent. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held September 27, 1966. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland reported that the City is continuing in its efforts to <br /> <br />obtain Federal approval of its application for "Mass Transportation Funds" from <br /> <br />the Housing & Urban Development Agency for financial assistance toward the <br /> <br />replacement of local Rapid Transit busses and, furthermore, with the extending <br /> <br />by the bW3 manufacturer of its "deadline" (to October 14th) for confirmation <br /> <br />of purchase order, there are reasons for hope that Federal approval will be <br /> <br />forthcoming. <br /> <br />By order entered October 6, 1966, the Honorable Frank I. Richardson, Jr., Judge <br /> <br />of the Corporation Court of the City of Martinsville, appointed Messrs. J. <br /> <br /> <br />Robert Walker, J. E. (Dick) Jones, and R. A. Henderson, Jr., as a duly-constituted <br /> <br /> <br />Board of Equalization for the City, to hold office and assume the authority and <br /> <br /> <br />perform the duties set forth in Sections 15-895 through 15-915 of the CODE OF <br /> <br /> <br />VIRGINIA, 1950, and as amended. Council expressed its real pleasure that these <br /> <br /> <br />appointees have indicated their willingness to serve in this capacity, <br /> <br /> <br />particularly inasmuch as they have served heretofore in similar or related <br /> <br />capacitiec: and have rendered distinguished service to their City and its citizens. <br /> <br />Meanwhile, Council established a per diem rate of compensation of $30.00 for <br /> <br />each member. <br />
