<br />1f <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 1 3. 1966 <br /> <br />,..---'- <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appreciation a gift--conveyed by deed--from the <br /> <br />Trustees of the First Baptist Church of a strip of land along the north side <br /> <br />of Mulberry Road and parallel to the church property from Starling Avenue along- <br /> <br />side Mulberry Road, which gift has enabled the City recently to widen Mulberry <br /> <br />Road at this point as well as reconstruct the adjacent sidewalk. <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council that an authorized contract with Simons <br /> <br />& Associates, covering regulations and conditions attendant to the extending <br /> <br />of water and sewer lines outside the corporate limits to serve a new shopping <br /> <br />center on Lester Lumber Company property off Route 220 North, should be cancelled <br /> <br />and replaced by a similar contract--except for a minor revision--with Martinsville <br /> <br />Plaza, Inc., inasmuch as this corporation is properly the firm with which such <br /> <br />contract should be made and executed; whereupon motion, duly seconded and <br /> <br />unanimously carried, Council authorized City Manager Noland and the Clerk of <br /> <br />Council to execute the new contract, subject to approval (as to form) by <br /> <br />City Attorney Cubine. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of an expression of appreciation, from the <br /> <br />;...,..."'........, <br /> <br />Martinsville Retail Merchants Association, for the recent action by Council <br /> <br />whereby the local license tax rate on retail merchants will be reduced (from <br /> <br />37r to 20r) effective May 1, 1967. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />'2.~~__ . <br />W.
