<br />UH <br /> <br />THURSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 1, 1966 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 5 of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, an organizational meeting of the Council of said City was held <br /> <br />Thursday, September 1, 1966, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning <br /> <br />at 9:00 A.M. Members present were (incumbents) Harry L. Boaz, Fred T. <br /> <br />Renick, M.D.; and E. E. Stone. Recently-elected (new) members W. Donald <br /> <br />Hartford and Francis T. West were unable to be present because Mr. Hartford <br /> <br />was out of town and Mr. West was confined at home by illness. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Corporation Court Clerk Jesse D. Clift reported that <br /> <br />Messrs. Hartford and West have qualified for their offices as members of <br /> <br />Council. Council then proceeded with the election of its officers, with <br /> <br />Dr. Fred T. Renick being unanimously elected Mayor and E. E. Stone being <br /> <br />unanimously elected Vice-Mayor, both for two-year terms ending August 31, <br /> <br />1968; whereupon, Court Clerk Jesse D. Clift administered the respective <br /> <br />oaths of offices. <br /> <br />Council then unanimously reappointed Mr. Irvin W. Cubine as City Attorney <br /> <br />and W. Holladay Yeaman as Clerk of Council. <br /> <br />By unanimous approval of members present, Council agreed to consider and/or <br /> <br />act upon bids received August 31, 1966, for the construction of a new City <br /> <br />Hall as per plans and specifications (and invitation to bidders) prepared <br /> <br />by J. Coates Carter, Architect. These bids were as follows: <br /> <br />BIDDER <br />Stanley W. Bowles Const. Co. <br />John W. Daniels Const.
