Council indicated that it may grant some reduction in the <br /> <br />present rate, the amount of which, if any, would be determined at Council's <br /> <br />forthcoming August 23rd meeting. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a petition requesting abolition of, or <br /> <br />redl1ction in rate of, the City's gross receipts license tax applicable to <br /> <br /> <br />the professional category, as filed by Attorney Douglas K. Frith(of Young, <br /> <br /> <br />Kiser & Frith, Attorneys at Law) on behalf of the medical staff of Martinsville <br /> <br /> <br />General Hospital and the Patrick Henry Dental Association. Council continued <br /> <br />this request for study. <br /> <br />Council directed that the matter of determining and/or establishing a local <br /> <br />license tax category and/or rate, applicable to Clearview Cable Television <br /> <br />Company's recently-franchised CATV operations within the City, be placed on <br /> <br />Council's forthcoming August 23rd agenda. <br /> <br />Having recently received the resignation of Dr. Leon A. Lackey as a (recently- <br /> <br />reappointed) member of the City's Planning Commission, and noting acceptance <br /> <br />thereof, Council unanimously appointed Mr. Nick Prillaman, Jr., to membership <br /> <br />on the Commission for Dr. Lackey's unexpired term ending July 1, 1970. <br /> <br />City Attorney Cubine and City Manager Noland reported that a deed has been <br /> <br />prepared for the conveyance of 19.2337 acres of land in the City's Industrial <br /> <br /> <br />Park to Continental Can Company, Inc., (at $5,000.00 per acre and for the total <br /> <br /> <br />sum of $96,168.50), pursuant to agreement between the City and the Continental <br /> <br /> <br />Can Company, which deed will be delivered to the purchaser upon receipt of the <br /> <br /> <br />purchase price. <br />
