Richardson,

Jr., who recently resigned coincident with his assuming his position as

Judge of the City's new Corporation Court.

Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council authorized the

acceptance by the City of deeds and/or easements for right-of-way, as follows:

(1) Church of God of Prophecy -- tract of land 6 feet in width by

153 feet in length along York Street; and

(2) Piedmont Consumer Corporation (a subsidiary of Piedmont Trust

Bank) -- tract 3 feet in width by 65 feet in length along east

side of Ellswroth Street.

In commenting upon an article in the May 10th edition of the Martinsville

Bulletin, pertaining to spillage of dirt from dirt-hauling trucks at the

corner of Sam Lion Trail and Clarke Road, Councilman T. J. Burch noted that

complaining citizens have been unable to determine where the responsibility

lies. Mr. Burch further commented that in such instances, or where complaints

are filed with the City, the City should be in a position to advise any

complainant as to where the responsibility lies and, also, should assist

the citizens in effecting corrective measures although the City might not

be responsible in instances.

Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director of the Martinsville-Henry County Health Department,

informed Council that a large number of complaints are being received by his

office regarding increasing numbers of rodents in Martinsville.
