')"
.JJv

TUESDAY
--

APRIL 12, 1966

dated November 19, 1965, which Council accepted in regular meeting held

November 23, 1965, in which it was understood--as confirmed by W. H. Yeaman1s

letter of November 30, 1965--"that the City would not be responsible--for

cost or otherwise--for underground services or connections, viz., service

lines from the City's right-of-\,ay to individual residences to be built".

Council continued this matter for study.

City Manager Noland info~ed Council that an application for Federal

assistance has been filed, in connection with the cost of replacing buses

in the Rapid Transit Company's local bus system, toward assuring the continued

operation of the local bus system on and after June 11, 1966, on which date

the Rapid Transit CompaDY has indicated it will terminate its franchise

with the City.

City Manager Noland also informed Council that, by an act of the 1966 Virginia

General Assembly, smoke abatement and air pollution will soon be regulated on

a state-wide basis under state regulations and authority.

To clarify a point raised, although already a matter of record by Council's

recent action in authorizing the forthcoming April 19th School Bond referendum,

Council publicly stated its endorsement of the construction program as set

forth in the bond ordinance adopted March 24, 1966.

Council was adjourned.

w.

n, Clerk of Council
