4--
---

TUESDAY

APRIL 12, 1966

Council confirmed its recent decision, following a recent informal inspection

tour to consider recommended changes and renovations in City Hall to accommo-

date the new Corporation Court and to provide quarters for certain other

offices, agreeing that the City would not rent the Keesee Estate building at

the corner of Main and Walnut Streets but, rather, would confine relocation

of the several offices involved to City Hall.

Although it was learned that it is not possible to revise present voting

precincts for the forthcoming April 19th School Bond referendum, Council

indicated that such precincts should be revised in accordance with State

requirements and that Precinct No.1 should be moved from the City's Shop

Building property on the north side of Fayette Street to the new Central Fire

Station at the corner of Church and Moss Streets and, further, Council

requested the Electoral Board (along with Councilman Burch and Circuit Court

Clerk Jesse D. Clift) to study this matter and designate two-or-more new

precincts, delineating new boundary lines of all precincts, and to locate

one precinct in the new fire station.

By letter, Mr. Rives S. Brown, Jr., President of Lanier Farm, Inc., developers

of the Hunting Ridge Road subdivision, claimed that lithe City does not intend

to pay for the wire to run underground from the street to the housell although

the City supplies and installs electric overhead connections. Mr. Brown

further asked that the City install the electric underground service connections,

i.e., from the street right-of-way to the houses, with the builders or

contractors furnishing the conduit. Council was informed that the Electric

Department's rules and regulations stipulate that the City is not responsible

for installation and/or costs of underground service connections. Council was

also informed of Lanier Farm's proposal, as covered in W. H. Yeaman's memorandum
