Kolodny, appeared before <br /> <br />Council and requested a "special use" permit for the Kolodny property at <br /> <br />17 South Moss Street whereby said property might be leased to the Martinsville- <br /> <br />Henry County United Fund, which organization must vacate its present premises <br /> <br />at 209 Cleveland Avenue in the immediate future. In referring this petition to <br /> <br />the Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation, and in order <br /> <br />to expedite the processing of said petition, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing on this petition to be conducted by Council in a special meeting <br /> <br />to be held Tuesday, March 29, 1966, at 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Mr. William U. Starkey, Manager of Southwestern Virginia Gas Company, and Mr. <br /> <br />Rives S. Brown, Jr., on behalf of the Estate of Rives S. Brown, Sr., appeared <br /> <br />before Council and requested a "special use" permit for their properties (now <br /> <br />zoned "M-111) located on an extension of Lester Street, north of the Carolina & <br /> <br />Northwestern Railway Company's right-of-way, to allow "M-2" usage of said <br /> <br />properties in connection with the Southwestern Virginia Gas Company1s rebuilding <br /> <br />of facilities recently destroyed by explosion and fire. Council referred this <br /> <br />petition to the Planning Commission for its consideration and recommendation <br /> <br />and, also, directed that a duly-advertised public hearing to be held on same <br /> <br />at the special meeting of Council called for Tuesday, March 29, 1966 at 7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Through Mr. Walter H. Hagood, Promotions Committee Chairman, the local Retail <br /> <br />Merchants Association expressed appreciation to Council for making available <br /> <br />the "free shopper" parking at the City's on-street meters on February 22, 1966. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council appointed Mr. James H. <br /> <br />Ford, Attorney at Law, to membership on the City's Planning COmmBsion for the <br /> <br />unexpired term of the late Mr. Whitney Shumate (i.e., until July 1, 1966). <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~i~'", _ ~~_~__ <br />"",,,,,~,:,~,:,,~e~:i .
