<br />') ! <br />-'l <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 22, 1966 <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council directed that tenants <br /> <br />occupying the City's property on the south side of West Church Street, <br /> <br />i. e., the new City Hall site, be given notice to vacate these premises <br /> <br />to make way for construction of a new City Hall in the near future. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged with appreciation a report of the activities of the <br /> <br />Martinsville Health Department for the calendar year 1965 and, also, a <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />report from Dr. C. J. Mathes, Director, on progress being made toward <br /> <br />improving conditions of alleyways in the downtown business district. <br /> <br />Council also acknowledged receipt of--and tentatively accepted--a report <br /> <br />from the Planning Commission, recommending the rezoning to "C-2 Commerciall1 <br /> <br />of property (formerly known as the "McMillion property") on the east side <br /> <br />of Ellsworth Street, adjacent to the Piedmont Trust Bank site, as recently <br /> <br />requested by the Piedmont Consumer Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary <br /> <br />of the Piedmont Trust Bank. Council then called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be conducted on this proposed rezoning at Council's <br /> <br />meeting to be held March 22, 1966. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Acknowledging continuing complaints concerning dog running-at-Iarge and <br /> <br />damaging properties and, also, complaints regarding smoke emission and soot <br /> <br />in the City, Council directed City Attorney Cubine to prepare--for Council's <br /> <br />considerawion--proposed ordinances dealing with these matters, which would <br /> <br />regulate and control these areas. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />w.
