Mutual advantages of constructing a new

connecting highway along the route of the sewer line were also cited.

Mr. Brown then reported on recent conferences with the Virginia Department of

Highways on the relocating of Route 57 from its intersection with Route 58

East and along the area of Northside Drive. Members of Council expressed the

desire that this project include some form of a IIcloverleafll at its inter-

section with the proposed line of Fairy Street Extension, in view of the

anticipated development of property in that area.

City Manager Noland presented a status report on developments to date for a

new Post Office for Martinsville.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's reports and recommendations

on the following proposals, Council called for duly-advertised public hearings

to be conducted by Council at its forthcoming February 8th meeting:

(1) Lacy Manufacturing Property Rezoning -- involving its property in

the vicinity of Adele Street, adjacent to its present plant site __
to IIM-2 Industrial";
(2) North Martinsville Pentecostal Holiness Church Property Rezoning
in the vicinity of Liberty Street and Lester's Lane -- to "C-3
Commercial"; and
(3) Recommended amendment to Section 5, Subsection H, Paragraph 9, of

the Zoning Code, in connection with petition filed by Druid Lanes

Bowling Center requesting permission to operate a billiard parlor

in conjunction with its bowling operations at its premises located

at 1051 Spruce Street.
