<br />CITY OF MARTINSVILLE <br />REDUCTION IN FORCE <br />IMPACT STATEMENTS <br /> <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />SUBMITTED BY CLARENCE MONDAY, CHIEF <br /> <br />I was directed by you to submit a reduction in force plan, equivalent to two full-time employees. <br />As you know, I met with you, the Assistant City Manager, and the Human Resources Director at <br />which time I orally presented the Fire & EMS Department's options for a reduction in force. At <br />the conclusion of the meeting, I was instructed to follow-up with a memo, thus summarizing <br />such options. This memo serves as follow-up to that meeting. <br /> <br />Mission of the Martinsville Fire & EMS Department <br />The Fire & EMS Department has the primary responsibility of saving lives and protecting <br />property, through fire protection and emergency medical services. Secondary responsibility <br />includes emergency management and safety for the employees ofthe City of Martins vi lie. <br /> <br />Current Division of Duties and Personnel Assignments <br />There are four divisions within the department, as follows: <br />· Administration (2 personnel) <br />o Fire Chief <br />o Administrative Assistant <br />· Operations (26 full-time personnel) <br />o Division Chief <br />o Three shifts, consisting of (8) personnel each <br />o Rover (Full-time employee that works during peak call times) <br />o Part-time firefighters (called in to fill vacancies when personnel are on sick leave, <br />vacation, etc.) <br />· Fire Prevention & Support (1.5 personnel) <br />o Fire Marshal <br />o Hydrant Maintenance Specialist (part-time) <br />· Emergency Management & Employee Safety <br />o Emergency Management Coordinator <br /> <br />The present alignment of personnel supports the primary and secondary responsibilities of the <br />Fire & EMS Department. <br /> <br />I <br />
