<br />7 -l <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JULY 25, 1972 <br /> <br />postponed. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's July 24th report of <br /> <br />approval, Council called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be <br /> <br />conducted by Council at its forthcoming August 22nd meeting on Graves <br /> <br />Supply Company's June 13th petition requesting (1) the rezoning from "C-3" <br /> <br />to "M-1" of a tract of land owned by petitioner and fronting approximately <br /> <br />135 feet on Harris Street and (2) the vacating and closing of a portion of <br /> <br />the right-of-way of Harris Street at its intersection with Memorial Boulevard. <br /> <br />Also, in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and <br /> <br />recommendations dated July 24, 1972, Council called for a duly-advertised <br /> <br />public hearing to be conducted by Council at its forthcoming August 22nd <br /> <br />meeting on (1) a proposal to withdraw and cancel a Special-Use Permit <br /> <br />issued under date of May 24, 1966 to Virginia Landmark Corporation to allow <br /> <br />construction of an apartment complex on a tract of land consisting of <br /> <br />approximately 9.66 acres situated on the north side of Spruce Street, <br /> <br />opposite its intersections with Auburn Place and Prospect Hill Drive, inasmuch <br /> <br />as said permit has never been exercised; and (2) an application filed April 25, <br /> <br />1972 by Community Methods, Inc., for a Special-Use Permit to allow construction <br /> <br />of an apartment complex at said foregoing location. <br /> <br />Mr. E. E. Stone, former member of City Council and now Chairman of the City's <br /> <br />Electoral Board, appeared before Council and cited the State statutes <br /> <br />governing operations and activities of electoral boards, with specific <br /> <br />emphasis on the need of a full-time Registrar and to establish and furnish <br /> <br />an office for such Registrar; and the need, pursuant to requirements of the <br /> <br />State Board of Elections, to purchase immediately two new voting machines <br /> <br />and to purchase two such machines each of the next three years; whereupon <br />
