<br />r)o <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 13, 1972 <br /> <br />City Manager Noland reported that excellent cooperation has been received from <br /> <br />interested citizens and firms toward removing the debris and improving the <br /> <br />appearance and conditions between Adell Street and Memorial Boulevard South, <br /> <br />a matter brought to Council's attention on May 23, 1972, through Councilman <br /> <br />Boaz, by Mr. Taswell C. Thurman and other residents of Adell Street. <br /> <br />By verbal petition, Mr. Walker H. Graves, President of Graves Supply Company, <br /> <br />Inc., requested the rezoning (from "C-3" to "M-l") of a lot fronting <br /> <br />approximately 135 feet on Harris Court, which petitioner expects to purchase, <br /> <br />and the closing and vacating of a small tract of land, now part of an un-used <br /> <br />street, situated between Harris Court and "old" Harris Court and/or adjacent to <br /> <br />petitioner's property and the lot for which rezoning is requested. Council <br /> <br />referred this petition to the Planning Commission for its consideration and <br /> <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />Mr. Walter Mitchell, representing the Sport.sman's Club of Martinsville and <br /> <br />Henry County, as well as parents, students, and interested citizens and <br /> <br />taxpayers of the City, presented a petition--signed by some 360 persons-- <br /> <br />requesting free bussing of City school students, beginning with the forthcoming <br /> <br />school year. Council referred this petition to City Manager Noland for study. <br /> <br />By a unanimous and recorded vote, Council convened to an Executive Session, after <br /> <br />which Council reconvened into its regular session and announced that no decision <br /> <br />has been reached with regard to the operation of the local bus system (soon to be <br /> <br />terminated by City Transit Company); and that Mr. Jackson L. Kiser, Attorney at <br /> <br />Law and member of the City School Board, has withdrawn his recent letter of <br /> <br />resignation from membership on the School Board, which letter was prompted to <br />
