<br />: : u <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 9, 1972 <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation, Council <br /> <br />called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted by Council at <br /> <br />its forthcoming June 13th meeting on a proposal to amend the City's Zoning <br /> <br />Ordinance--on petition of Sale Knitting Division of the Tully Corporation of <br /> <br />Virginia--by reducing the setback requirement on the west side of Moss Street, <br /> <br />between Church & Fayette Streets, in an amount yet to be determined. <br /> <br />At the Planning Commission's request, Council continued for consideration a <br /> <br />recommended proposal to change certain street-names. <br /> <br />Mr. W. K. Putney, Chairman of Martinsville City School Board, and Mr. John D. <br /> <br />Richmond, School Superintendent, appeared before Council and reviewed certain <br /> <br />aspects of the School Board's proposed operating budget in the amount of <br /> <br />$3,167,244.00 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 1972, with the increase <br /> <br />thereof over the current 1971-72 budget being wholly offset by increased State <br /> <br />funds; whereupon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council approved <br /> <br />said proposed budget for inclusion in the City's forthcoming 1972-73 budget. <br /> <br />Also, upon recommendation of the aforementioned school system officials, <br /> <br />Council adopted the following resolution authorizing the School Board to apply <br /> <br />to the Virginia Literary Fund for a loan of $325,000.00 to supplement assured <br /> <br />Federal funds in the amount of $286,000.00 to construct a new Vocational Shop <br /> <br />Building in the vicinity of Martinsville Senior High School, off Northside <br /> <br />Drive, which loan will be payable in fifteen annual installments and the <br /> <br />interest thereon at 3% to be paid annually on balances outstanding: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, The School Board for the City of Martinsville, Virginia, on <br />the ninth day of May, 1972, presented to this Council, an application <br />addressed to the State Board of Education of Virginia for the purpose <br />
