<br />:: 0 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 11, 1972 <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the reduction <br /> <br />of the current 44-hour workweek in effect for certain personnel to a 40-hour <br /> <br />workweek, effective immediately. <br /> <br />Also, upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the <br /> <br />requesting of the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System to make available <br /> <br />to the City's eligible employees group life insurance under the State's <br /> <br />group coverage plan, through the following resolution: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled this eleventh day of April, 1972, that it does <br />hereby elect to have such of the eligible employees and officers of <br />the City of Martinsville, who are regularly employed full time on a <br />salary basis and whose tenure is not restricted as to temporary or <br />provisional appointment, to become eligible to participate inthe <br />Group Life Insurance program administered by the Virginia Supplemental <br />Retirement System, effective July 1, 1972, under conditions set forth <br />in Sections 51-111.67:1 through 51-111.67:13 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA <br />(1950, and as amended or as may be amended); and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Martinsville hereby agrees to <br />deduct from the wages of such employees-and pay over in the manner <br />prescribed--the respective amounts required by law and, further, to <br />pay the required employer cost; and <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Thomas B. Noland, City Manager, and W. H. <br />Yeaman, Clerk of Council, be and are hereby authorized and directed, <br />in the name of the City of Martinsville, to execute any required contract <br />in order that the aforementioned employees may become eligible to <br />participate in the Group Life Insurance program as provided in the <br />above-cited sections of the CODE OF VIRGINIA; and in execution of any <br />required contract, the seal of the City of Martinsville shall be affixed <br />and attested by the Clerk of Council and said officers are authorized <br />and directed to pay, from time to time, such sums as are due to be paid <br />under such contract or contracts. <br /> <br />With reference to minutes hereinbefore relating to the Application for a <br /> <br />Special-Use Permit filed by Fralin & Waldron and to the lack of sidewalks <br /> <br />in the Northside area, Council received a request that a study of the side- <br /> <br />walk needs of the area be conducted in the hope that sidewalk improvements <br /> <br />may result therefrom. <br />
