:: 0 TUESDAY APRIL 11, 1972 Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the reduction of the current 44-hour workweek in effect for certain personnel to a 40-hour workweek, effective immediately. Also, upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the requesting of the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System to make available to the City's eligible employees group life insurance under the State's group coverage plan, through the following resolution: BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in regular meeting assembled this eleventh day of April, 1972, that it does hereby elect to have such of the eligible employees and officers of the City of Martinsville, who are regularly employed full time on a salary basis and whose tenure is not restricted as to temporary or provisional appointment, to become eligible to participate inthe Group Life Insurance program administered by the Virginia Supplemental Retirement System, effective July 1, 1972, under conditions set forth in Sections 51-111.67:1 through 51-111.67:13 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended or as may be amended); and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Martinsville hereby agrees to deduct from the wages of such employees-and pay over in the manner prescribed--the respective amounts required by law and, further, to pay the required employer cost; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Thomas B. Noland, City Manager, and W. H. Yeaman, Clerk of Council, be and are hereby authorized and directed, in the name of the City of Martinsville, to execute any required contract in order that the aforementioned employees may become eligible to participate in the Group Life Insurance program as provided in the above-cited sections of the CODE OF VIRGINIA; and in execution of any required contract, the seal of the City of Martinsville shall be affixed and attested by the Clerk of Council and said officers are authorized and directed to pay, from time to time, such sums as are due to be paid under such contract or contracts. With reference to minutes hereinbefore relating to the Application for a Special-Use Permit filed by Fralin & Waldron and to the lack of sidewalks in the Northside area, Council received a request that a study of the side- walk needs of the area be conducted in the hope that sidewalk improvements may result therefrom.
