<br />)ou <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 8, 1972 <br /> <br />(3) City's cost of providing secondary treatment will be 20% of estimated <br /> <br />total cost of $968,000.00; and <br /> <br />(4) Construction is required to begin by November of 1972 and completed <br /> <br />by November of 1973. <br /> <br />By letter dated February 3, 1972, Southwestern Virginia Gas Company advised <br /> <br />Council that because of an increase in the company's supplier's rates, which <br /> <br />are permitted to be passed on to the company's customers under regulations <br /> <br />promulgated by both Federal and State regulatory agencies, a small increase to <br /> <br />the company's customers will be effected February 1, 1972, this being in addition <br /> <br />to the increase effective January 1, 1972 as reported to Council at its <br /> <br />January 11th (1972) meeting. <br /> <br />As introduced, Council placed on first reading a Motor Vehicle License Tax <br /> <br />Ordinance, to become effective March 15, 1972, incorporating the same rates <br /> <br />and regulations as became effective for the license tax year which began <br /> <br />March 15, 1971. <br /> <br />Through City Manager Noland and Public Works Director Brown, Council was <br /> <br />apprised of certain problems being encountered, along with accompanying <br /> <br />excessive costs, in continuing the present method of refuse collection as <br /> <br />pertains to serving the commercial areas of the City, proposing that current <br /> <br />regulations (also pertaining to commercial areas) be amended so as require the <br /> <br />usage of larger containers than presently being used, for which the City has <br /> <br />already purchased a pick-up unit or truck and some containers, which truck <br /> <br />will be able to service some fifteen containers on one route run, as opposed <br /> <br />to being able--with equipment now being used--to service only one business on <br /> <br />one route run or trip.
