Jones, Jr., that no violation of <br /> <br />the City's applicable regulations has occurred and, too, construction of the <br /> <br />office building-retail business building, when underway, would have to conform <br /> <br />to the City's Building Code although the eventual operation of the business <br /> <br />might not be conducted in such a manner as might meet with the approval of the <br /> <br />concerned citizens, inasmuch as the limitations applicable to "C-2" and "C-3" <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />zoning districts may not be as restrictive as might be desirable in specific <br /> <br />instances. Accordingly, Council referred this matter to the Planning Commission <br /> <br />with the request that the Commission re-examine current "C-2" and "C-3" zoning <br /> <br />regulations, with special emphasis and consideration being given toward <br /> <br />controlling usage of premises within these districts so as to curtail and/or <br /> <br />prevent outside storage of items for sale which, otherwise, tend to create <br /> <br />unsightly conditions and general nuisances. <br /> <br />Mr. Joseph W. Pritchett, of 1203 Maxine Road, appeared before Council and <br /> <br />presented a prepared statement which alleged "...the needless, brutal beating <br /> <br />of one of our citizens by arresting law enforcement officers on December 3, 197~ <br /> <br />The statement further indicated that the officers of the NAACP and the Voters <br /> <br />"'~ <br /> <br />Registration Association met with the City's Chief of Police following the <br /> <br />incident and had not received any report thereon as promised by the Police Chief <br /> <br />as soon as he had completed an investigation thereof. Police Chief Williams, <br /> <br />who was present, informed Council that the investigation was under way but not <br /> <br />quite completed and, further, that he had contacted some of the concerned citizens <br /> <br />but had been unable to contact Mr. Pritchett; and, in addition, inasmuch as trial <br /> <br />of the defendant is still pending, it would be inappropriate to comment publicly <br /> <br />on this case.
