<br />} I ) ',) <br />~, j \ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 9, 1971 <br /> <br />of Commerce, and supported by Mr. William U. Starkey, Jr., who resides at the <br /> <br />Cornerstone Apartments, that Council consider re-routing through truck traffic <br /> <br />away from the downtown business area when the new Route 57 By-Pass (Northside <br /> <br />Drive project) is completed. <br /> <br />Council was notified of a Virginia Municipal League regional legislative <br /> <br />meeting to be held in Roanoke, Virginia, November 18, 1971, to which members <br /> <br />of city governing bodies within the region, as well as regional representatives <br /> <br />to the 1972 General Assembly, are urged to attend. Council indicated that, by <br /> <br />subsequent contact with the Manager's office, the League will be notified of <br /> <br />the extent of the City's representation to this meeting. <br /> <br />A request filed by Messrs. David Prillaman and W. W. Wingfield, requesting <br /> <br />the rezoning of their properties (to "Commercial") fronting the souths ide of <br /> <br />Clearview Drive, immediately adjacent to the east side of the Taylor's <br /> <br />Supermarket property, was referred to the Planning Commission for its <br /> <br />consideration and recommendation. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Public Works Director George W. Brown, Council approved <br /> <br />(and authorized execution thereof by the City) a subdivision contract and/or <br /> <br />agreement (dated November 8, 1971) with Lee Telephone Company, providing terms <br /> <br />and conditions by which Fisher Street, for a distance of some 650 feet, through <br /> <br />Lee Telephone Company's subdivision (which subdivision has the approval of the <br /> <br />Planning Commission) north of the Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company's <br /> <br />right-of-way in Each Martinsville will be improved and whereby utility services <br /> <br />will be provided to accommodate an expansion of Lee Telephone Company's facilities <br /> <br />at that location. <br />
