<br />0/\ <br />Uu <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 23, 1971 <br /> <br />AGREEMENT: <br /> <br />The City of Martinsville, State of Virginia, hereinafter referred <br />to as Martinsville, and the Virginia Department of Highways, <br />hereinafter referred to as the Highway Department, hereby agree <br />as follows: <br /> <br />1. That the Highway Department will prosecute a project for the <br />improvement of 1.708 miles of Route 57 within Martinsville from <br />Int. W. Church Street to Int. Rte. 57, Station lO+06.56, to Station <br />l43+24, designated as Route 57, Project 0057-l20-l03, PE-lOl, RW-201, <br />C-50l, B-60l, B-602, B-603, B-604. This includes a connection on <br />Fairy Street. <br /> <br />2. Martinsville hereby approves the plans as designed and requests <br />the Highway Department to prosecute the aforementioned project with <br />recommendation that it be approved and agrees that if such project <br />is approved and constructed by the Highway Department, it, thereafter, <br />at its own cost and expense, will maintain the project, or have it <br />maintained, in a manner satisfactory to the Highway Department, or <br />its authorized representatives, and will make ample provision each <br />year for such maintenance. <br /> <br />3. Martinsville hereby agrees that the location, form and character <br />of informational, regulatory, warning signs, curb and pavement or <br />other markings and traffic signals, installed or placed by any public <br />authority, or other agency, shall be subject to the approval of the <br />Highway Department. <br /> <br />4. Parking will be prohibited at all times on both sides of this <br />project as above described. This also applied to the connection <br />on Fairy Street. <br /> <br />5. At places where parking is prohibited, the appropriate NO PARKING <br />signs shall be erected. The size, design and color of such signs <br />shall conform to the standards as shown in the latest edition of the <br />Manual ~ Uniform Traffic Control Devices. <br /> <br />6. Upon completion of rights-of-way acquisition and construction, <br />the State Highway Commissioner will convey rights-of-way title to <br />Martinsville. <br /> <br />7. Martinsville agrees that after construction of the project, or any <br />part thereof, it will not permit any reduction in the number or width <br />of traffic lanes, additional median crossovers, enlargement of <br />existing median crossovers, or alterations of channelization islands, <br />without the prior approval of the Highway Department. <br /> <br />8. Martinsville agrees to participate in the actual cost of this <br />project in accordance with the following tabulation, understanding <br />that the costs shown are estimated and the percentages will be applied <br />to actual costs: <br />
