<br />It {- <br />.jd <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 8, 1970 <br /> <br />approved the construction of l4l~ feet of curb-and-gutter from West Church <br /> <br />Street along Barton Street to accommodate construction of a new business <br /> <br />building at the corner of West Church and Barton Streets, for which the <br /> <br />owner of said building and property has deposited his share of the cost, <br /> <br />noting that this partial construction would be coordinated with future <br /> <br />construction of the remainder of the project. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council increased--effective <br /> <br />October 1, 1970--the ttwide-loadtt permit fee, provided in the October 26, 1965 <br /> <br />amendment to Section 9-91 of the City Code, from a minimum of two dollars <br /> <br />($2.00) to a minimum of three dollars ($3.00), citing the cost in personnel <br /> <br />and time of City personnel involved in the movement of house trailers and <br /> <br />other large vehicles through the City. <br /> <br />Mr. Wilbert E. Evans, of 1419 South Askin Street, as President of the <br /> <br />Martinsville-Henry County Pony League, verbally and in person expressed <br /> <br />appreciation to the Council, Recreation Director Herbert o. Hughes, Public <br /> <br />Works Director George W. Brown, and other City personnel, for their interest <br /> <br />and assistance in providing expanded recreational facilities for the young <br /> <br />people of the City. <br /> <br />Because of there being a conflict between Council's regularly-scheduled <br /> <br />September 22nd meeting date and the forthcoming annual convention of the <br /> <br />Virginia Municipal League (the latter to be at Arlington, Virginia, September <br /> <br />20th-22nd), Council rescheduled said meeting to Thursday, September 17th, at <br /> <br />7:30 P.M. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />2,)~"-"'h ,,<^, ,- <br />W.
