It {-
.jd

TUESDAY

SEPTEMBER 8, 1970

approved the construction of l4l~ feet of curb-and-gutter from West Church

Street along Barton Street to accommodate construction of a new business

building at the corner of West Church and Barton Streets, for which the

owner of said building and property has deposited his share of the cost,

noting that this partial construction would be coordinated with future

construction of the remainder of the project.

Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council increased--effective

October 1, 1970--the ttwide-loadtt permit fee, provided in the October 26, 1965

amendment to Section 9-91 of the City Code, from a minimum of two dollars

($2.00) to a minimum of three dollars ($3.00), citing the cost in personnel

and time of City personnel involved in the movement of house trailers and

other large vehicles through the City.

Mr. Wilbert E. Evans, of 1419 South Askin Street, as President of the

Martinsville-Henry County Pony League, verbally and in person expressed

appreciation to the Council, Recreation Director Herbert o. Hughes, Public

Works Director George W. Brown, and other City personnel, for their interest

and assistance in providing expanded recreational facilities for the young

people of the City.

Because of there being a conflict between Council's regularly-scheduled

September 22nd meeting date and the forthcoming annual convention of the

Virginia Municipal League (the latter to be at Arlington, Virginia, September

20th-22nd), Council rescheduled said meeting to Thursday, September 17th, at

7:30 P.M.

Council was adjourned.

2,)~"-"'h ,,<^, ,-
W.
