Ii

TUE SDA Y

SEPTEMBER 8, 1970

~

home courts would curtail subsidized housing and, consequently, would prevent

the meeting of certain anticipated housing needs provided through subsidized

housing:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this eighth day of September, 1970,
that the Zoning Ordinance and the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville
be--and are hereby--amended to reclassify to "R-6 Residential" all of
that property consisting of approximately twelve acres of land, owned
by Mr. George C. Salmons, lying between East Church Street and
Mountain Road, adjacent to the east corporate limit of the City of
Martinsville.

Council continued for further consideration the application for a Special-Use

Permit, pending the compilation of approved conditions to be attached to such

permit, when granted.

With reference to a petition received June 9, 1970, from the Three T Investment

Corporation, requesting the closing and vacating of that undeveloped section of

Middle Street which lies between Roundabout Road and the rear of Lot #91 of the

Wray Estates development, Council received the following reports and/or

recommendations, i.e., from the Planning Commission recommending granting of

petitioner's request, and from a duly-constituted Board of Viewers whose

findings were conditional or limited:

The Planning Commission conducted a public hearing on August 20th on a
petition submitted by the Three T Corporation requesting the closing and
abandonment of a portion of Middle Street passing through two lots of
their subdivision in the West End section of the City known as the Wray
Estates.

Following further consideration of the evidence heard at this public
hearing at its meeting on September 1, 1970, the Commission voted to
recommend to Council that this petition be granted and that the area
indicated on the plan submitted for a turnaround at the end of the
section of Middle Street remaining be accepted by the City.

The Commission felt that the closing of this portion of Middle Street
would not adversely affect any property owners in the area and would
enable the developer to more fully utilize the property in question to
serve the housing needs of the community.

The Planning Commission respectfully submits the above recommendation
for Council's further consideration.

- .'-- ---..--___._..______n___.__.__._.____.._____..__._ _ .._ _."___.__..___..._________.~_._
