~ lo)
J.. ...

TUESDAY JULY 14, 1970

Route 57 improvements and relocation. Meanwhile, in response to Councilman

Hobson's inquiry as to whether curb-and-gutter project requests are building

up an increasing back-log as compared to construction completed each year,

it was indicated that the back-log is now diminishing to the extent that,

perhaps, in three years there should be no back-log. Councilman Hobson also

pointed out that the more quickly such projects are completed the sooner

property owners can make planned improvements to their properties.

Council acknowledged receipt of--and referred to the Planning Commission for

its consideration and recommendation--a petition filed by the R. H. Wimbish

Corporation (Mr. R. H. Wimbish, President), requesting permission to

connect--at petitioner1s expense--the Mount Olivet Court Subdivision, out-

side the City's corporate limits at or near the intersection of State Route

57 with State Secondary Route 917, to the City's water system now serving

the Woodland Heights Subdivision, that petitioner's subdivision and residents

might be supplied water from the City1s system.

Upon inquiry of (to) Council as to its wishes with regard to Section 7-2

of the City Code, i.e., whether to revise said section to parallel

Section 15.1-11(2) of the CODE OF VIRGINIA, 1950 (and as amended) wherein

a governing body may require owners of vacant lots to keep such lots free

of excessive growth of grass, weeds, etc., or the governing body may remove

such growth at owner's expense, Council adopted the following ordinance so

revising said Section 7-2 as to parallel said Section 15.1-11(2) of the

State Code, meanwhile determining that reasonable notice of intent to such

property owners shall be in the form of verbal contact and persuasion,

written notice by letters, and/or public newspaper notice:
