~

TUESDAY

APRIL 28, 1970

~

Supplementing Council's action of March 24, 1970, Council approved--for execution

by City Manager Noland--a storm-sewer easement to Fine & Salzburg, Inc., owners

of the new postoffice facility being constructed near the intersection of Spruce

Street and Brookdale Road, conditionally permitting a storm-sewer drain across

adjacent property owned by the City of Martinsville.

.,-

Through Mayor Renick, Council received an invitation to an "open house" at

Fieldcrest Mills, Fieldale, Virginia, the afternoon and evening of May 6, 1970.

Through Councilman Boaz, Council received an invitation to attend a field-and-track

event sponsored by the Martinsville Recreation Association, at English Field

the afternoon of May 2, 1970.

Also, through Councilman Boaz, Council received expressions of concern from several

citizens regarding hazardous conditions existing at several street intersections,

caused by trees and shrubbery interfering with the sight-vision of motorists and

pedestrains. Council suggested that the City continue its program, through

cooperation and voluntary efforts of property owners involved, toward eliminating

these conditions.

Vice-Mayor West reported that a number of citizens residing in the Oakdale-Hairston-

Thomas Heights area have complained of the disturbing noise caused by Norfolk &

Western Railway "car-shifting" between the hours of 11~00 P.M. and 2:00 A.M.,

whereupon Council suggested that City Manager Noland apprise the railway company

of these complaints in the hope that the railway company might rearrange its

schedules so as not to interfere with the rest and sleep of these area residents.
