<br />Prl <br />~ -' <br /> <br />...- ......, <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 14, 1970 <br /> <br />In acceptance of the Planning Commission!s recommendation (dated April 10, 1970), <br /> <br />and noting that a public hearing was duly held March 18, 1970, both on the <br /> <br />Martinsville Thoroughfare Plan (1969) as prepared by the Virginia Department of <br /> <br />Highways, Council unanimously approved said Plan. <br /> <br />In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's recommendation (dated April <br /> <br />10, 1970), in connection with petition dated January 12, 1970, filed by Woodmen <br /> <br />of the World and requesting the rezoning of petitioner's property identified as <br /> <br />Lots Nos. 13 through 18, on Cabell Street, from "R-9" to "C-3tr, Council called <br /> <br />for a duly-advertised public hearing on said petition--and on the Planning Commission!s <br /> <br />proposal that all property fronting said Cabell Street, presently zoned IIR-9\1, be <br /> <br />rezoned to IIC-311--to be conducted at Council!s forthcoming May 12th meeting. <br /> <br />With authority conferred by Council, Mayor Renick appointed the following three <br /> <br />gentlemen as member-representatives from the City of Martinsville to the <br /> <br />recently-organized (or soon-to-be organized) West Piedmont Planning District <br /> <br />Commission, charter agreement for which was approved by Council on March 10, 1970: <br /> <br />(a) from City Council - <br />Councilmen Francis T. West and William D. Hobson; and <br />(b) from the citizenry - <br />Mr. Leon Globman. <br /> <br />Mrs. Sallie Mason (John W.) Clark, Chairman of the Community Improvement Committee <br /> <br />of the Martinsville-Henry County Chamber of Commerce, along with members of her <br /> <br />committee, appeared before Council and presented a written statement describing the <br /> <br />goals of the committee, viz., (1) a more beautiful community and (2) a cleaner <br /> <br />community. The report then cited certain conditions which need improving or <br /> <br />correcting and solicited the cooperation and assistance of Council and the community <br /> <br />toward achieving these goals.
