Gravely, of 600 Jefferson Street, appeared before Council <br /> <br />and urged that Council take early action toward abating air pollution in <br /> <br />the City, citing that the City's garbage dump and several local manufacturing <br /> <br />plants are the worst offenders or largest contributors to the problem. <br /> <br />Public Works Director George W. Brown reviewed with Council the City's <br /> <br />plan to utilize a site (north of the City), recently purchased, for the <br /> <br />depositing of refuse in a land-fill type operation, pointing out that the <br /> <br />best usage of this new site as well as of future sites for such purpose <br /> <br />demand additional personnel and ~pen~e equipment. Mayor Renick commented <br /> <br />on the related problem created by the littering of public and private properties, <br /> <br />having recently discussed this matter with the Henry County Board of Supervisors, <br /> <br />in an effort to develop among the citizens of the City and the County an <br /> <br />awareness of the problem and to elicit the cooperation of the citizens <br /> <br />toward eliminating the unsightly and unhealthy conditions caused thereby. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council took no action on the budget requests for 1970-1971, submitted by <br /> <br />the various local constitutional officers, in the hope that Council might review <br /> <br />these requests at a special meeting and before said requests are to be filed <br /> <br />with the State Compensation Board (on April 2, 1970). <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />Council directed its Clerk to convey, by letter, to the widow and family of <br /> <br />the late Rives S.
