8

TUESDAY

MARCH 10, 1970

Mr. Thomas J. Womack, of 200 Fourth Street, appeared before Council and

congratulated the City upon its being named an "ALL-AMERICA"city for 1970,

commending the Council and the City administration for its presentation before

the All-America jury in Philadelphia some weeks ago as well as upon the award

ceremony on March 7th; however, Mr. Womack expressed an objection to the fact

that the public award ceremony did not include a black citizen on the platform

of guests and officials, at which ceremony the Honorable Linwood Holton,

Governor of Virginia, and the Honorable Dan Daniel, Congressman, spoke and

offered congratulatory messages. In connection therewith, Mayor Renick

commended City Manager Noland for his successful efforts in behalf of the City's

entry in the "All-America City" competition, expressing the hope that the City

and its citizens will continue their efforts toward making the city and community

a better city and community as well as the hope that Martinsville will merit and

win the "All-America" award and honor again and again.

Mr. Herbert Berlin, of 22 Gravely Street, appeared before Council and complained

of the noise and nuisance allegedly emanating from City Transit busses being

parked overnight on the City's municipal parking lot near Gravely Street. City

Manager Noland explained that this site for the parking of busses is a temporary

location, pending the completion of construction improvements by City Transit at

its bus station opposite City Hall.

Council was adjourned.

W.
