<br />., 4 <br />)-1 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 27, 1970 <br /> <br />property (consisting of lots Nos. 13 through 18) on Cabell Street. <br /> <br />Council unanimously approved a request (dated January 27, 1970) of City <br /> <br />Transit Company to purchase from its reserve funds a new school-type <br /> <br />bus to replace a 1954 bus, to prepare for an anticipated need arising <br /> <br />from the probable reactivation of certain school facilities, beginning <br /> <br />September 1, 1970. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland reviewed with Council certain legislation expected <br /> <br />to be introduced in the 1970 Virginia General Assembly, particularly that <br /> <br />proposed legislation which effect the City's interests. <br /> <br />City Manager Noland also informed Council of an impending ruling by the <br /> <br />Federal Communications Commission, and its adverse effect upon the City <br /> <br />and many other cities if the ruling results in a departure from <br /> <br />currently-accepted principles, upon the question of whether to transfer <br /> <br />to telephone utilities the sole right of issuing franchises for CATV <br /> <br />operations. Council requested City Attorney Cubine to investigate this <br /> <br />matter and report his findings to Council. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~~' <br />w. H.
