J

WEDNESDAY

NOVEMBER 12, 1969

In connection with his request for City sewer service presented October 28,

1969, Mr. Mack Evans again appeared before Council in this matter. Public

Works Director George W. Brown presented to Council two construction methods

by which, if the City were to furnish service, Mr. Evans' problem at 1034-1036

Barrows Mill Road might be solved, neither of which the City could financially

justify at this time, nor could Mr. Evans; whereupon, inasmuch as this property

and the surrounding area are located in the County of Henry and within the

service jurisdiction of the Henry County Public Service Authority, Council

suggested that Mr. Evans attempt to obtain service through the Authority.

Council unanimously accepted a deed, without cost to the City, conveying a

small area to the City by Forest Park Country Club at the end of Mulberry

Road as it connects to the entrance of Forest Park Country Club, which area

will provide a vehicle "turn-around" at the end of said Mulberry Road.

Council acknowledged with appreciation the interest and assistance of many

citizens supporting the City's recent entry in the 1970 "ALL-America City"

competition, in which Martinsville has been adjudged one of twenty-two

finalists, from which eleven cities will be named. Council cited especially

Mr. A. L. Aydlett, Jr., Executive Vice President of the Martinsville-Henry

County Chamber of Commerce, and the Chamber of Commerce for his and its

outstanding efforts in the City's behalf, including the City's presentation

before a "review jury" at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 10th-11th.

In response to an inquiry from Mr. Worth H. Carter, Jr., Vice President

and Comptroller of the Piedmont Trust Bank, Council reported that negotiations
