TUESDAY

OCTOBER 14, 1969

--

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council and the Planning Commission

jointly conducted a public hearing on the petition of the First National Bank of

Martinsvi1le & Henry County, filed September 9, 1969, requesting the rezoning to

"C-3" of its property bounded by Askin, South, and Summit Streets. In acceptance

of the Planning Commission's recommendation thereon, and there being no objections

to the proposed rezoning, Council adopted the following ordinance effecting said

rezoning:

.-

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in
regular meeting assembled this fourteenth day of October, 1969, that the
Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville be--and are
hereby--amended to reclassify to "C-3 Commercial" that property owned by
The First National Bank of Martinsville & Henry County and consisting of
an area located west of Memorial Boulevard South and bounded on the north
by Askin Street, on the east by South Street, and on the south by Summit
Street.

After discussing the question of whether to purchase microfilming equipment for

the City's Engineering Division, with comments thereon by Mr. O. W. Poindexter,

operator of Logan Gray, Inc., and by a representative of the 3-M Corporation

(manufacturer of equipment on which a purchase proposal has been received), Council

deferred action on the proposal, pending receipt from Logan Gray, Inc., of this

firm's cost proposal, including estimated cost of transferring all of the City's

maps and drawings to a system similar to that provided by the 3-M Corporation's

equipment.

Council referred to the Planning Commission, for its consideration and recommendation,

a request filed by Mr. Bill Adkins, of Adkins Construction Corporation, Co11insvi11e,

Virginia, requesting water and sewer service for a proposed ten-unit apartment

-

building outside the City's corporate limits, on Spruce Street, between Druid

Lane and Beverly Way, adjacent to the property of Martinsvi1le Convalescent Home.
