<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY JANUARY 14, 1975 <br /> <br />Council agreed to consider in Executive Session. In addition, upon recommendation <br /> <br />of the CBD Commission, Council appointed the current president of the Retail <br /> <br />Merchants Association (Mr. Raymond H. Wallace) to membership on said Commission <br /> <br />for a term to coincide with tenure as RMA President. Council also appointed <br /> <br />Mr. William A. Wade, immediate past president of the Retail Merchants Association, <br /> <br />and Mr. Conrad M. Knight to membership on the Commission. As to membership of <br /> <br />said Commission and members currently being appointed by the Commission to <br /> <br />major sub-committees thereof, Mr. Thomas J. Womack expressed the opinion that all <br /> <br />segments of the community should be proportionately represented thereon. <br /> <br />Pursuant to request of Mr. R. P. Gravely, Sr., Chairman of the Martinsville-Henry <br /> <br />County Bi-Centennial Commission, Council authorized the underwriting by the City <br /> <br />of incidental expenses incurred by this commission in an amount up to $100.00. <br /> <br />Mr. Harry Little and Mr. Jack Holland, of the VPI Cooperative Extension Service, <br /> <br />appeared before Council and presented the results of a survey of area problem <br /> <br />identification, as recently conducted by the Henry County Extension Division staff. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the City's Electoral Board, Council voted to retain the <br /> <br />City's present absentee-voter system and, thus, not to establish a central election <br /> <br />district as is now permitted under Section 24.1-233.1 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, <br /> <br />and as amended). <br /> <br />City Manager Noland informed Council that the City of Martinsville is entitled to an <br /> <br />allocation of $29,455.00 under the Federal Government's Comprehensive Employment & <br /> <br />Training Act of 1973 for the purpose of hiring unemployed individuals for temporary <br />
