<br />3~i <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />DECEMBER 10, 1974 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Vice-Mayor William D. Hobson presiding in the absence of Mayor Harry L. Boaz, was <br /> <br />held Tuesday, December 10, 1974, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., <br /> <br />all members--with the exception of Mayor Boaz--being present, viz., William D. Hobson, <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor; Morton W. Lester; G. S. Fitz-Hugh, Jr.; and Barry A. Greene. <br /> <br />.,"-' <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting <br /> <br />held November 26, 1974. <br /> <br />Prior to the beginning of its regular order of business, Vice-Mayor Hobson, on behalf of <br /> <br />Council and the City, recognized by name the eleven employees of the City who have completed <br /> <br />thirty-or-more years of service and are still actively employed, with special recognition <br /> <br />of W. H. Yeaman on the occasion of his completing thirty years of service as Council's Clerk <br /> <br />and as the City's Director of Finance. <br /> <br />Carrying out its intent expressed in its regular meeting held November 26, 1974, upon <br /> <br />motion--duly seconded and unanimously carried--Council adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />amending Section 6-5 of the City Code, whereby the City's tax year will coincide with its <br /> <br />fiscal year, viz., from July 1st to following June 30th of each year: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Section 58-851-6 of the CODE OF VIRGINIA (1950, and as amended) states <br />that any city may by ordinance provide that taxes on real estate, tangible personal <br />property, and machinery and tools be levied and imposed on a fiscal year basis <br />of July 1 to June 30, and that any such city may change the rate of any such <br />levy during any fiscal year and may have a short fiscal year, from January 1 through <br />June 30, in order to effect a change to a fiscal tax year; now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of <br />session held on the tenth day of <br />City Code (1971, and as amended) <br />follows: <br /> <br />the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in regular <br />December, 1974, that Section 6-5 of the Martinsville <br />be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as <br />
