<br />32 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 12, 1974 <br /> <br />data necessary to the filing of application for Federal funds for this and other projects. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of an annual report of the West Piedmont Planning District <br /> <br />Commission. <br /> <br />Council also acknowledged notice of a general public meeting of senior citizens and other <br /> <br />interested persons to be conducted in the Circuit Courtroom of City Hall on November 25, 1974. <br /> <br />Council officially took note of a new recruiting program undertaken and being sponsored by the <br /> <br />local unit of the Virginia National Guard, designed to build up the personnel strength of said <br /> <br />unit. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of the City's Highway Safety Commission, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />resolution requesting permission from the Virginia Department of Highways & Transportation to <br /> <br />allow the City to erect regulatory signs on certain sections of Memorial Boulevard (Route 220 <br /> <br />within the City) to apply to tractor-trailer traffic on and along said Memorial Boulevard: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a problem with tractor-trailers on Memorial Boulevard, causing undue <br />traffic delays, has come to the attention of the Martinsville Highway Safety <br />Commission and the Martinsville City Council; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Martinsvil1e has no direct control over this problem; <br />now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia, in regular <br />meeting assembled this twelfth day of November, 1974, that the Virginia <br />Department of Highways & Transportation be--and is hereby--requested to grant <br />permission to the City of Martinsville to erect signs and enforce the directions <br />thereon whereby tractor-trailer trucks will be restricted to the right lanes of <br />the following sections of Memorial Boulevard (Route 220) within the City of <br />Martinsville: <br />(a) the south-bound lane between the City's north corporate limits <br />and Beaver Street; <br />(b) the north-bound lane between the City's south corporate limits <br />and Douglas Street; and <br />(c) the north-bound lane between Salem Street and Sellers Street. <br />
