McGhee) for the purpose of studying the West Piedmont <br /> <br />Planning District Commission's proposed Regional Housing Plan, with instructions to file a <br /> <br />report and its recommendations thereon with Council. <br /> <br />,.- <br /> <br />By report dated October 21, 1974, the Planning Commission informed Council that The Lester Group <br /> <br />(i.e., Lester Properties) has filed a petition with the Commission requesting the rezoning of <br /> <br />its property (consisting of approximately three acres), situated on the east side of Fairy Street <br /> <br />opposite the Martinsville Senior High School tennis courts, from "R-6 Residential" to "R-9 <br /> <br />Residential", stating that petitioner has been unable to develop said property in accordance with <br /> <br />plans for which said property was rezoned on February 12, 1974 from "R-9 Residential" to "R-6 <br /> <br />Residential", upon petition of Bennett & Wilson, Inc. The Commission further reported that it <br /> <br />has conducted a public hearing on said request and now recommends approval of same by Council. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council--in tentative acceptance of the <br /> <br />Commission's recommendation--called for a duly-advertised public hearing to be conducted on this <br /> <br />proposal at Council's forthcoming November 12th meeting. <br /> <br />In another report, the Planning Commission recommended that a petition referred by Council from <br /> <br />Council's meeting of September 17, 1974, as submitted by Lester Properties (a division of The <br /> <br />Lester Group, Inc.), requesting the rezoning of petitioner's property situated on the south side <br /> <br />of Commonwealth Boulevard, between the Martinsville-Henry County Health Center and the existing <br /> <br />"M-l"-zoned area adjacent to Mitchell-Howell Ford, Inc., from its present "R-6" classification to <br /> <br />a "C-3" zoning, be approved. The Commission also reported that petitioner has filed with the <br /> <br />Commission an application for a Special-Use Permit to allow for construction of an office complex, <br /> <br />which application the Commission is holding in abeyance as it is the Commission's final action on <br /> <br />its own initiative proposing that additional property within the area be rezoned.
