<br />27 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 28, 1974 <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the payment of $300.00 to <br /> <br />Mr. Raymond W. Loman, Supervisor of the City's public transportation system, as reimbursement <br /> <br />for funds of like amount paid by Mr. Loman to preserve the corporate status of the now-defunct <br /> <br />City Transit Company, Inc., with the understanding that any funds held by Mr. Loman for <br /> <br />account of the corporation will be transferred to the City. <br /> <br />/-- <br /> <br />Pursuant to report and recommendation by Assistant City Manager-Public Works Director <br />f'j <br />George W. Brown, Council 'the exchanging of right-of-way, on the east side of Ellsworth <br /> <br />Street, with The First National Bank of Martinsville & Henry County and/or the Piedmont <br /> <br />Trust Bank in such a manner as to realign the City's right-of-way abutting properties owned <br /> <br />by these banks. <br /> <br />Inasmuch as the date (required by charter) of Council's required 1974 organizational <br /> <br />meeting (scheduled for September 1, 1974) falls on Sunday and inasmuch as the following Monday <br /> <br />(September 2nd) will be a legal holiday, Council scheduled said required organizational <br /> <br />meeting for Tuesday, September 3, 1974, beginning at 9:00 A. M., in the Council Chamber, City <br /> <br />Hall. <br /> <br />Referring to a matter previously covered by these minutes, viz., the City Welfare Board and <br /> <br />the frustrations it has encountered in its efforts to function responsibly, Mayor West <br /> <br />urged Council to pursue and continue steps already in progress with Governor Mills Godwin <br /> <br />and other officials (state and federal) toward removing state and federal rulings and <br /> <br />regulations which interfere with and prohibit the providing of public assistance in a fair <br /> <br />and equitable manner. <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />It being reported that Mr. Jackson L. Kiser is willing to serve another term on the City <br /> <br />School Board, if reappointed, for such term beginning July l, 1974, and in appreciation <br /> <br />and recognition of his past contributions in this capacity, Council unanimously reappointed <br />
