<br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 23, 1973 <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, supported by several landowners and/or <br /> <br />their agents present, Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance amending <br /> <br />the City Code (by the addition thereto of the following section designated <br /> <br />Section 11-38.1) pertaining to the use of private properties by "motorbike" riders <br /> <br />and to the posting of signs on such private properties: <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, in <br />regular meeting assembled October 23, 1973, that the Code of the City <br />of Martinsville, Virginia (1971, and as amended) be and is hereby amended <br />to include the following: <br /> <br />Section 11-38.1. <br /> <br />(a) Any person who operates a motorcycle or other motor <br />vehicle, as those terms are defined in Sections 46.1-1 <br />(14) and (15) of the 1950 CODE OF VIRGINIA, as amended, <br />upon the lands of another upon which signs or posters <br />have been placed prohibiting the operation of motorcycles <br />or other motor vehicles by others upon said lands, <br />without having in his or her possession the written <br />consent of the owner, or his agent, shall be guilty of <br />a misdemeanor. <br /> <br />(b) Any person who shall mutilate, destroy, or take down <br />any "no motor bikes, motorcycles, or jeeps allowed" sign <br />or poster or similar sign or poster on the lands of another, <br />or who shall post such sign or poster on the lands of <br />another, without the written consent of the landowner or <br />his agent, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in effect on and after November 5, 1973. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of City Manager Noland, Council authorized the usage of <br /> <br />decals--in lieu of metal tags, except where otherwise necessary--for the <br /> <br />"licensing" of motor vehicles within the City during the forthcoming motor <br /> <br />vehicle license tax year; and, in addition, Council authorized the preparation <br /> <br />of an appropriate motor vehicle license tax ordinance reflecting such usage <br /> <br />and requirements for the forthcoming tax year. <br /> <br />17 <br />
