<br />1 "~-1 <br />. ~j <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 26, 1973 <br /> <br />City Manager Noland also informed Council that, following conferences with citizens <br /> <br />,.-...--- <br /> <br />residing on Booker Road pertaining to a proposed sidewalk for the east side of <br /> <br />this street, objections by citizens residing on the east side of this street <br /> <br />still remain and, therefore, the matter remains unresolved. Meanwhile, <br /> <br />pursuant to recommendations by City officials, Council awarded a contract <br /> <br />to Thompson-Arthur Paving Company (being the low bidder) for the construction <br /> <br />of sidewalk along the north side of East Church Street Extended, from a point <br /> <br />"..- <br /> <br />near or opposite the Patrick Henry School to the Booker Road intersection, this <br /> <br />being a segment of the sidewalk construction project involving Booker Road. <br /> <br />Council accepted with appreciation the annual report of the Martinsvi1le <br /> <br />Volunteer Fire Company, as presented through its president, Mr. James O. Slice, <br /> <br />and through Fire Chief John Lloyd Gregory. <br /> <br />Subject to resolving a question concerning the annual fee which the <br /> <br />Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company (Southern Railway System) proposes <br /> <br />to charge for allowing the City to install a concrete storm-drain and <br /> <br />a twelve-inch sanitary sewer line under or across the right-of-way of <br /> <br />said railway company at Lester Street, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />resolution authorizing Mayor West to execute on behalf of the City two <br /> <br />agreements with said railway company pertaining to these two installations: <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this twenty-sixth day of June, 1973, <br />that the Honorable Francis T. West, Mayor of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, be--and is hereby--authorized to execute two agreements, <br />on behalf of the City of Martinsvil1e, with the Carolina & <br />Northwestern Railway Company, whereby said City of Martinsvi1le will <br />be permitted to install a concrete storm-drain line and a twelve- <br />inch sanitary sewer line under or across the right-of-way of <br />said Carolina & Northwestern Railway Company at Lester Street, <br />City of Martinsvil1e, Virginia <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />......, <br /> <br />w.
