2 TUESDAY JUNE 12, 1973 spur track which crosses this property and now serves Lowe's, which discontinuance has the agreement of the Norfolk & Western Railway Company and would involve only a contract with Lowe's, which contract can be terminated with due notice. Council unanimously accepted with appreciation an offer from the Piedmont Trust Bank (through its ~resident & Chief Evecutive Officer, Mr. Irving M. Groves, Jr.) to donate approximately seven feet of right-of-way along and parallel to the south side of East Church Street, for the purpose set forth in said offer and subject to the conditions stipulated therein, with Council being informed that necessary right-of-way from the J. C. Kearfott property (adjacent to the east boundary of the bank property) will be donated and that, hopefully, necessary right-of-way from the Evelyn H. Stone property (adjacent to the east boundary of the Kearfott property) will be donated, thus providing all right-of-way necessary to widen and realign this block of East Church Street. The Piedmont Trust Bank offer follows: As you are aware, Piedmont Trust Bank has been involved in a significant expansion of its main office banking facilities at the intersection of Church and Ellsworth Streets here in the City of Martinsville. While engaged in our construction activities, it has become apparent to us that any desired improvements to Church Street, on which certain of our property fronts, would better be made now than sometime in the future after all construction has been completed. Consequently, we have been in contact with Mr. Irvin R. McGhee who has advised us that it would be quite desirable from the City's point of view to have the South margin of Church Street immediately East of Ellsworth Street aligned with that same margin of Church Street immediately West of Ellsworth Street. We realize that the City has purchased some of the right of way to make possible the present curb lines on Church Street West of Ellsworth. However, Piedmont Trust Bank feels that the benefit to the general public by reason of improvement of traffic conditions justifies it in donating to the City of Martinsville a strip of land approximately seven feet in width on the South side of Church Street.
