<br />1""1 '? <br />ii ~t: <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 13, 1973 <br /> <br />who do not choose to use them must carry their trash cans with tight <br />fitting lids to the curb for collection and return the cans to the <br />rear of their homes on the same day. <br /> <br />This system is designed primarily to serve single family residences, <br />duplex and small apartment buildings. <br /> <br />Plastic bags used for storing garbage and trash shall conform to the <br />requirements of the National Sanitation Foundation, Standard Number 31 <br />for polyethylene Reguse Bags. All such plastic bags shall have a <br />minimum thickness of 1.5 mils, a minimum circumference of 60 inches <br />and a minimum inner dimension of 37 inches. <br /> <br />It shall be the responsibility of residents desiring municipal <br />collection and disposal service to obtain at their cost the required <br />number of plastic bags and/or standard refuse containers meeting <br />City standards and specifications to properly store refuse originating <br />on their property. <br /> <br />Refuse stored in plastic bag liners at rear of residences or refuse <br />stored in cans brought by the resident to the curb line will be collected <br />by City collection crews at frequent intervals (at present, two times a <br />week). Refuse not stored in plastic bags or standard refuse containers <br />will not be collected by City sanitation employees. <br /> <br />Types of refuse permitted to be stored in plastic bags or standard <br />refuse containers shall be as follows: <br /> <br />1. Garbage: Putrescible animal and vegetable waste resulting <br />from the handling, preparation and consumption <br />of foods. <br /> <br />2. Rubbish: Nonputrescible solid waste consisting of paper, <br />cardboard, wood, tin cans, glass, yard clippings, <br />bedding, crockery, small pieces of metal, trash, <br />sweepings, litter and all other similar substances <br />that becomes a n~sance. <br /> <br />Broken glass and sharp pointed items shall be wrapped in paper to <br />prevent puncturing of the plastic bag liners. <br /> <br />Ashes shall be stored in separate metal containers and brought by <br />residents to the curb line on regular collection days in order to <br />have such material collected and disposed of by the City. <br /> <br />The above policy shall become effective April 1, 1973. <br /> <br />The above policy shall in no way relieve any owner, agent, lessee <br />or other occupant of any premises in the City of the requirements of <br />Chapter Eight of the City Code of the City of Martinsville titled <br />"Garbage Refuse and Weeds". <br />
