5

TUESDAY

JANUARY 9, 1973

,-,
'"

stringent ordinance aimed at the controlling of dogs, since, basically speaking,

a stronger ordinance would mean a "leash ordinance". Thus, rather than consider

such a drastic move, Mayor West outlined the many problems connected with the dog

situation, in this or any other community and pointed out that there is no generally

accepted solution. Accordingly, the Mayor plead for public cooperation, and that

those aggrieved by a particular dog problem to talk first with the owner of the

dog, when ascertainable, and should favorable results not ensue from such discussions

then court procedures should be followed. Further, the Mayor urged dog owners to

face up to their responsibility and stated that ultimately the solution to this

problem is up to the citizens. Everyone expressed the hope that a more stringent

ordinance would not become a necessity.

The City Manager reported that Mr. Martin Lester had withdrawn, at least temporarily,

his recently submitted petition in which he requested the rezoning of certain

properties located at Starling Avenue and Hairston Street.

In tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation dated

January 5, 1973, Council called for the advertisement of a public hearing to be

conducted by Council at its forthcoming February 13th meeting, on the City Electric

Department's request for the issuance of a Special Use Permit which would allow the

construction of an electric substation on Indian Trail, between House No. 1019 and

No. 1023.

Also in tentative acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation

dated January 5, 1973, Council directed that a public hearing be advertised to be

conducted by Council at its forthcoming February 13th meeting, on Lester Lumber

Company's petition for the closing of Elizabeth Street and Elizabeth Boulevard,

in the vicinity of Commonwealth Boulevard.

. -_..__.~...-....- ---------_._._---_...~-------,--.~..._...-,--
