"} '1
i''''' :1

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 24, 1972

enough off-street spaces in the Central Business District, but some are poorly

located. Pursuant to a full discussion, the City Manager was asked to continue

direct contacts with the Merchants Association, that the matter be continually

studied and that in January, 1973, the whole parking meter situation would be

brought before Council for additional consideration.

Councilman William D. Hobson presented a written report, as Chairman of his

Environmental Committee; the report included three specific recommendations.

These had to do with the removal of junk cars, the general matter of the

before-pickup storage of refuse generated by commercial establishments within

the City, and the problem of lack of maintenance of vacant lots and the apparent

lack of an ordinance setting forth maintenance requirement of land surrounding

unoccupied buildings. The report also made reference to upcoming "Clean-Up Week"

in November, marking the final formal fall "Clean-Up Week". Then, Mrs. Sally

Clark, a member of the Environmental Committee, and Chairman of the Chamber's

Beautification Committee, presented an additional written report which covered

a number of specific situations and told of cooperative efforts between the

Chamber of Commerce, Garden Clubs and similar groups, in conjunction with

appropriate City agencies. Following the discussion, it was agreed that the

various points brought up in these reports would be pursued further and that

ordinances would be suggested as appropriate and that other efforts would be carried

forth in keeping with recommendations made in the two written reports.

On motion made and duly seconded, there was unanimous action to name members of a

Central Business District Study Commission, as follows:

George W. Brown, Chairman, Morton W. Lester, W. D. Hartford, W. D. Hobson

and Senator William F. Stone.
