r ~ o TUESDAY DECEMBER 13, 1977 ,- By letter dated December 4, 1977, addressed to Mayor Hobson, the United States Postal Service informed the Council that it intends to relocate the "downtown" postal facility, which for many years has been located at the southwest corner of Church & Bridge Streets. The necessity for this proposed relocation, the Postal Service advised, is precipitated by the United States Army's desire to occupy all of the area of the present facility, as owned by the United States ,.-- Army. The Postal Service further indicated that it is in the process of "surveying the downtown area for adequate operational quarters" for the downtown postal service. In response to this notice, Mayor Hobson informed the Postal Service that--such a possitility having been considered by all interested parties only within the last year--assurance had been given these parties that the downtown post office would remain at its present location. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council referred this matter jointly to the City's Planning Commission, the CBD Commission, the local Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Business Association, and the Retail Merchants Association. As a part of a written presentation to the Federal Power Commission and as a phase of on-going studies directed toward the feasibility of developing and constructing additional hydroelectric generating facilities, and upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously carried by a recorded vote), Council adopted the following resolution: A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AN APPLICATION UNDER THE FEDERAL POWER ACT FOR A PRELIMINARY PERMIT FOR HYDROELECTRIC PROJECTS WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Martinsville has received the "Report on Site Selection Survey" dated March 1977, and WHEREAS, it is deemed to be in the best interest of the City of Martinsville to pursue investigation of the feasibility of con- structing such hydroelectric generating facilities and,
