<br />/171 <br />~.;l. , <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />OCTOBER 25, 1977 <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />Development Administration has approved a grant of $200,000.00, these two bids being <br /> <br />$236,543.95 submitted by Thompson-Arthur Paving Company and $234,114.20 submitted by Laramore <br /> <br />Construction Company. Upon recommendation of the City Administration, Council accepted the <br /> <br />low bid submitted by Laramore Construction Company, with certain adjustments thereto, as well <br /> <br />as appropriated (from the General Fund's Emergency Account) the sum of $5,877.20 as the <br /> <br />estimated amount by which the estimated adjusted cost of the project will exceed said grant, <br /> <br />all of which (adjustments) is set forth in the following certificate issued by the City's <br /> <br />Finance Director (under date of October 28, 1977) pursuant to requirements of the Economic <br /> <br />Development Administration: <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: Economic Development Administration <br />United States Department of Commerce <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Project No. (EDA) 01-51-26722 (Funding) _ <br />Proposed Mulberry Road Extension _ <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia <br /> <br />This is to certify that Martinsville City Council, at its regular meeting <br />held October 25, 1977, unanimously accepted the low bid of $234,114.20 submitted <br />by Laramore Construction Company for construction of subject project, which <br />bid is reduced by items therein to be provided and/or constructed by City work- <br />forces, viz., $22,000.00 for traffic control system and $3,875.00 for sanitary <br />sewer lines, resulting in a net contract in the amount of $208,239.20. <br /> <br />It is estimated that said contract will be reduced further, under mutual <br />agreement, by (1) $3,702.00, representing over-estimation of need for two <br />hundred tons of S-5 bituminous concrete surface, and (2) $7,460.00, <br />representing the elimination of 4% concrete in the sub-base included in <br />said bid. Accordingly, the net construction value will be $197,077.20, <br />predicated upon unit prices and quantities which, with consulting engineer's <br />fee of $8,800.00 and excluding the aforementioned items, amounts to an <br />adjusted cost of $205,877.20. <br /> <br />This is to certify, also, that said Council (during said meeting and as a part <br />of its bid acceptance motion and action) provided for the funding by the City <br />of Martinsville (from local funds) of the difference between the said adjusted <br />cost and the EDA grant of $200,000.00, being an amount of $5,877.20. <br />
