<br />(161 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 27, 1977 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with <br /> <br />Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, September 27, 1977, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being present, viz., William D. <br /> <br />Hobson, Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; L. D. Oakes; and Francis T. <br /> <br />West. <br /> <br />~- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular meeting held <br /> <br />September 14, 1977. <br /> <br />Mayor Hobson commended the Police Department on its recent intensive surveillance of certain <br /> <br />areas of the City and the success thereof in curtailing the upsurge of house break-ins and <br /> <br />robberies in those areas. <br /> <br />.--. <br /> <br />Council acknowledged receipt of a report from the Planning Commission, in which report the <br /> <br />Commission informed Council that it will conduct a public hearing on October 20, 1977, on the <br /> <br />petition received by Council on September 14, 1977, submitted by Bennett & Wilson, Realtors, on <br /> <br />behalf of Mrs. J. W. Booker, requesting the rezoning of the Booker property at 212 Starling <br /> <br />Avenue (from "R-6" to lIP_2") and, further, that the Commission will make its recommendation <br /> <br />thereon at Council's forthcoming October 25th meeting, thus enabling Council to advertise its <br /> <br />public hearing thereon for the October 25th meeting, that the petition might be "processed" <br /> <br />with expendiency, as requested by petitioner, which advertising Council duly authorized. <br /> <br />Also, in connection with a report from the Planning Commission, Council called for a duly- <br /> <br />advertised public hearing to be conducted by Council at its forthcoming October 25th meeting <br /> <br />on the request filed with Council on September 14th by Wells & Donavant Construction Company, <br />
