<br />08 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 2l, 1977 <br /> <br />time restrictions attached to the use of the EDA grant--outside engineering <br /> <br />assistance probably will be required in order to meet Federal requirements <br /> <br />relating to the filing of an application and to the date on which actual <br /> <br />construction shall have begun. <br /> <br />Assistant City Manager-Public Works Director George W. Brown apprised Council of <br /> <br />other details of the EDA requirements, with special emphasis on the facts that <br /> <br />costs incurred by the City in connection with these projects prior to grant approval <br /> <br />of the EDA are not reimbursable from EDA funds and (that) the alignment of the <br /> <br />proposed Mulberry Road extension will seriously affect the present usage of Brown <br /> <br />Street Field and, therefore, consideration and planning should be directed to <br /> <br />providing alternate recreational facilities. <br /> <br />Upon Councilman Greene's motion, seconded by Councilman Oakes, Council unanimously <br /> <br />selected and approved the foregoing three projects in the order listed, with <br /> <br />$85,000.00 from presently available local funds, if needed, to be allocated to <br /> <br />the cost of these projects and $40,000.00 from Revenue-Sharing funds, if then <br /> <br />needed, to be allocated thereto, meanwhile authorizing (a) Mayor Hobson and/or City <br /> <br />Manager Noland to execute such documents as may be required to obtain and use the <br /> <br />EDA's $600,000.00 grant and (b) the employing of such outside engineering assistance <br /> <br />as may be required therefor. <br /> <br />Upon motions by Councilman Oakes, seconded by Councilman Greene, Council unanimously <br /> <br />directed that (1) the City's administrative personnel recommend to Council an <br /> <br />alternate project in the event one of the foregoing three projects does not quality <br /> <br />for Federal EDA funding and (2) the City's administrative personnel study--for <br />
