<br />378 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 24, 1977 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor William D. Hobson presiding, was held Tuesday, May 24, 1977, in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members--with the exception of <br /> <br />Councilman Francis T. West, who was out of town--being present, viz., William D. Hobson, <br /> <br />Mayor; William C. Cole, Jr., Vice Mayor; Barry A. Greene; and L. D. Oakes. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held May lO, 1977. <br /> <br />In connection with a petition filed with Council on April l2, 1977, by Davis Oil <br /> <br />Company, requesting an amendment to applicable regulations so as to allow petitioner <br /> <br />to construct a canopy over a gasoline pump island at 1105 Brookdale Road, the <br /> <br />Planning Commission recommended the adding of the following amendment to Article VI, <br /> <br />Section B, Paragraph 2, of the City's Zoning Ordinance, on which proposed or recommended <br /> <br />amendment Council directed a duly-advertised public hearing be conducted at Council's <br /> <br />forthcoming June 14th meeting: <br /> <br />In the C-l district, free-standing canopies over service <br />station pump islands, a minimum of fifteen feet above the <br />street curb with the supports being in the pump island, <br />may extend over the required setback area to a line not <br />closer to the front line than twelve and one-half feet. <br /> <br />Upon recommendation of Mr. John J. Hartley, City Commonwealth's Attorney, supported in <br /> <br />by Mr. Frank A. Gard, Sr., the City's Police Chief, Council authorized the posting of <br /> <br />a reward in the total amount of $l,OOO.OO for the furnishing of information and evidence <br /> <br />leading to the arrest and conviction of person or persons who murdered one Anthony <br /> <br />Maurice Pinkard on April l6, 1977, Council being informed that the Henry County Board of <br /> <br />Supervisors has recently posted a reward of like amount for this same purpose. <br />
