,72

TUESDAY

APRIL 26, 1977

Department to conduct local public transit route changes and other exploratory

procedures toward developing accurate ridership habits of citizens using the

public transit system and toward relating same, using existing equipment, to

various findings and recommendations included in the recently-prepared Transit

Study report. Meanwhile, City Manager Noland informed Council that (1) a

representative of the consulting firm (of Wilbur Smith & Associates), which

prepared the Mass Transit Technical Study report, has been invited to discuss

with Council, at Council's forthcoming May 10th meeting, various aspects of the

study report and (2) there will soon be available a Statewide Transit Statistical

Data Report from the Virginia Department of Highways & Transportation. Following

some discussion of the foregoing aspects, Council directed that a public hearing

be conducted by Council, at its forthcoming May 10th meeting, to enable citizens

to express their opinions as to the present and/or proposed methods of operating

the City's transit system.

In acknowledging receipt of the annual report (for 1976) of the Martinsville

Volunteer Fire Company, represented by Messrs. Frank Warren and Phillip Henry,

Council commended this organization for its continuing and valuable contributions

toward the protection of citizens and property within the City.

Upon being informed that Mr. L. Randolph Isley, having moved out of the City, has

terminated his membership on the City's Industrial Development Authority, and upon

motion (duly seconded and unanimously carried), Council appointed Mr. Larry Farrar

to said Authority membership for Mr. Isley's unexpired term (ending September 26, 1978).
