33

JANUARY 25, 1977

TUESDAY

--

At the suggestion of Mayor Hobson, Council requested that reports from

various boards, commissions, and City departments be furnished to Council

in writing in advance of Council meetings, particularly when official action

by Council is expected and/or requested.

City Manager Noland apprised Council of his immediate response to the just-

,--

received energy survey requested by The Honorable Mills E. Godwin, Governor

of Virginia, noting that local oi1-and-gas reserves are becoming depleted

and that, with a continuation of the current and severe winter weather, there

could develop a serious and critical energy shortage. In connection

therewith, Councilman Oakes recommended that the City administration

develop an official energy conservation plan for City uses and report

back to Council thereon.

In connection with the Finance Director's recent financial report to

the City Manager, for the first six months of the current fiscal year,

Councilman Greene requested that Mr. Robert I, Corekin, Director of

the City's Electric Department, provide a month-by-month "breakdown"

,-

of electric energy sales and ki1owatthours, with an explanation as to

why electric revenue is falling short of budget estimates. Councilman

Greene also requested that Mrs. Mabelle S. King, Director of the City's

Social Services Department, furnish an explanation as to why there is

indicated a "shortfa11" in income from a new revenue item identified as

"Public Assistance - Donors".

-

Council was adjourned.

) ...~_"" c ,., "
W.
