{-. "
/
I-..:

TUESDAY

NOVEMBER 9, 1976

..--

I shall not quarrel with the decision of this fine citizen -
this Good Samaritan - this humanitarian. Only because he
identified with me has he become the butt of criticism from
some few people. Nor, can I ask him to "hold on" because of
further abuse owing to our having run as teammates. I am
sure it is comforting to both of us to know that 2,055
voters did not look askance at this association. And, let
me state with emphasis what Pat knows and 2,055 people know -
I don't own anybody and I don't wish to. The thought is
absolutely abhorrent to me. I have never used other than
persuasion to try to achieve any notion whatever the situation;
family, church, business, civic or political. I never shall.

,'.-.

To illustrate the kind of person Mr. Sutton is, he has even
suggested that he feels Mr. Cole is a good man and has the
qualifications to make an able councilman. I concur with
Mr. Sutton's evaluation of Mr. Cole and I hope and trust the
many that voted for Mr. Sutton do too. If Mr. Greene nominates
Mr. Cole again, he will have my vote. If Mr. Cole is selected,
the tax payers will be spared the cost of a special election.

Following this presentation, and upon motion (duly seconded and unanimously

carried), nominations were opened for the filling of said vacancy. And,

following the nomination by Councilman Greene of Mr. W. C. Cole, Jr., the

nominations were unanimously closed and, accordingly, Mr. Cole was unanimously

appointed to membership on the Council for Mr. Fitz-Hugh's unexpired term ending

August 31, 1978. Meanwhile, Council indicated that it would re-organize at its

next regular meeting, suggesting that Mr. Cole might be formally sworn in at that

meeting.

",-

Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on

(1) a proposed Flood Plain Ordinance and (2) proposed amendments to portions of

Sections IV and V of the City's Subdivision Ordinance relating to said proposed

Flood Plain Ordinance, as recommended by the Planning Commission for the purpose

of protecting life and property as well as for the protecting of health. After a

-
I
