<br />29l <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 23, 1976 <br /> <br />,,- <br /> <br />(2) the offices of a number of physicians, whose offices <br />are located near said Memorial Hospital; <br />(3) places of employment throughout the City of <br />Martinsville and, especially, Sale Knitting Company <br />(TULTEX Corporation), Hooker Furniture Company, <br />Pulaski Furniture Company, Patrick Henry Mall stores, <br />and downtown Martinsville stores; <br />(4) recreational areas, both in and out of the City of <br />Martinsville, such as the City's Reservoir, various <br />community centers and parks, Philpott Lake, <br />Fairystone State Park, and Smith Mountain Lake; <br />(5) Patrick Henry Community College, located off Route <br />108, approximately l~ miles north of Martinsville, <br />where some 1,100 students are enrolled; and <br />(6) various governmental agencies providing health <br />care, social services, law enforcement, and general <br />administration, both within the City of Martinsville <br />and those agencies of Henry County located on Kings <br />Mountain Road. <br /> <br />,.- <br /> <br />Now, therefore, <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, that it does hereby request the Virginia Department <br />of Highways and Transportation to give early consideration <br />toward the necessary widening and improving of said Liberty <br />Street and Route 108. <br /> <br />Mr. R. Reid Young, III, Attorney at Law, appeared before Council on behalf of <br /> <br />Mr. Steve Draper and others in like circumstances and requested that Council <br /> <br />amend Section 8-3.3 of the City's Employee Manual to the extent that, under <br /> <br />certain conditions, relatives of City employees may apply for and, if qualified, <br /> <br />obtain employment with the City. Council continued this request for study, <br /> <br />pending a report thereon from City Manager Noland at Council's forthcoming <br /> <br />December 14th meeting and a legal opinion from City Attorney Worthy as to <br /> <br />whether the provisions of said Section 8-3.3 are in conflict with State <br /> <br />statutes and/or with the Federal Equal Employment Opportunity Act. <br />
