In an effort to assist Henry County in meeting <br />its parking needs related to the operation of <br />its Court facility and other offices at its <br />present location, it is recommended that <br />sufficient parking on a long-term basis be <br />offered the County in the existing City-leased <br />Depot Street parking lot and in the lot owned <br />by the Carolina and Northwestern Railway; <br /> <br />That the two owners of these properties be <br />contacted in an effort to secure long-term <br />leases or purchase of these properties in <br />order to insure general permanence of such <br />parking; and, <br /> <br />Further that all meters situated along the <br />perimeter of the Court House property be <br />removed and an arrangement of parking in <br />these spaces be established as desired by the <br />Board of Supervisors. (The City Administration <br />to work with and assist the County in arranging <br />such parking). <br /> <br />2. As a gesture of good-will and for the purpose <br />of ascertaining the overall effect of permitting <br />free parking without a time limit on Saturdays <br />within the CBD, it is recommended that on a <br />trial basis free parking without time limit be <br />permitted in all City-operated off-street parking <br />lots through November 15, 1976. <br /> <br />Upon motion by Councilman West, who commended the CBD Commission for its <br /> <br />study and report and (who) noted that its recommendations are in accord with <br /> <br />the purpose of his initial proposal acted upon by Council at Council's <br /> <br />September 7th meeting, with the motion being seconded by Councilman Oakes, <br /> <br />and with Councilman Greene abstaining from voting, Council adopted said <br /> <br />report and recommendations, with the recommendation pertaining to free <br /> <br />parking on Saturdays to become effective Saturday, September 11, 1976. <br /> <br />As a matter of interest and not requiring any action of Council, Police Chief <br />
